Form follows function in the design of the Rainshadow 3. The simple geometry offers wide floor space with lots of leg room and head space for three. At under a pound per person, the weight to size ratio of this tent makes it easy to pack on any trip. Best of all, the front entrance can be fully opened to offer spectacular, panoramic views and excellent ventilation.

Michael David (verified owner) –
Tent worked well for my wife and I and our two dogs.
It’s super easy to put up and only sagged because pegs would come out of the sandy ground, or move quite a bit. The next morning it was standing and the front two pegs holding the vestibule had pulled out the of the ground…but the tent stayed up.
Lots of little design features we appreciate, ability to put up with different sized pole in rear, closing the end up from inside, rolled up door not getting in our way, nice view out front.
Very easy to get a breeze going through to counter condensation, and the space is enjoyable to spend time in for a tent.
We’ve ended up putting lines mid way on the side tabs to pull it out a bit, can’t really think of a downside on this tent as the price and weight add up to an amazing value.
James –
We purchased the Rainshadow 3 soon after it was released back in May 2018. It’s been used as the “girls” tent in our family while the boys use another 3 person tent from another brand. Overall this is a very good tent, with a little room for improvement/refining. We would buy again, and recommend it to others despite some minor issues.
Pros
– Ultralight when you split the poles and body between two people.
– Quick, easy setup.
– Good livability.
– Excellent headroom at opening, and surprisingly good even at foot area.
– Large front door unzips and hangs from the top so you aren’t stepping on it.
– Stuffs very small without poles.
– Less expensive than other lightweight tents.
Cons
– Rear horizontal stay has sharp ends, and can come out of it’s sleeve too easily (which can be frustrating with the sharp ends).
– Very difficult to get rear end tensioned perfectly like shown in the photos.
– Side sag could benefit from some tie out points mid way up to create more headroom (there are only tie out points at the bottom).
– Sometimes wish there were a stake point at the front pole ends, instead of the more complicated tensioning straps.
